Here my home made CNC router is milling a scale RC helicopter tail rotor hub from a piece of 6082-T6 aluminium.

You can see me spraying spirit on the work piece occasionally for cooling. This works great for aluminium.

58" part on a 15" CNC router.

58" part on a 15" CNC router. Shows how I setup my Kleinbauer "7th Sojourn" home-built CNC router to cut out a long X-axis brace for a Joe's 2006 router build. My 7th has a 15" X travel limit so I had to break the Autocad drawing for the brace into 4 15" parts. In this video I use a touch-off plate, setup a jig, and run each part on Mach3. Cut is made with a 1/8" 2 flute carbide end mill at between 20 and 30 ipm. Material is 1/2" MDF. Spindle is a RotoZip.

K2 CNC Router - Mach 3 - Guitar Body - Cutting Guitar
This is a K2 CNC router cutting a guitar body. A Colombo spindle is used. The project uses roughing and finish passes. The bit cuts a depth of 1.5 inches. This project takes about 13 minutes. This was a test or demo run with little enhancements of the program to make the cutting faster. I am sure a Luthier can make the project cut faster. The KG-3925-GC machine is often used for inlay, body, necks, 3D and 2D cutting also. The machine runs about $15,000, but basic machine starts at about $11,500. A similar machine will be a NAMM 2008.
